A concentrated red, with an earthy, savory side contrasting its plum and blackberry fruit. A broad swath of tannins makes its presence felt on the finish, yet there’s a beam of acidity keeping this focused and refined. Drink now through 2043. 1,600 cases made, 150 cases imported.
The property has 272ha in the Valdarno di Sopra area, bordering Chianti, delimited in 1716 by the Grand Duke of Tuscany for the quality of its wine and olive oil. Petrolo was part of the medieval fiefdom of Galatrona, of which the tower (Torrione) still remains on top of Roman foundations. The winery was bought by the Bazzocchi family in the 40s.
